$10,000 USPOULTRY Foundation Student Recruiting Grant Awarded to University of North Georgia – Gainesville Campus

The USPOULTRY Foundation has awarded a $10,000 student recruiting grant to the University of North Georgia (UNG) – Gainesville Campus. A four-year institution, UNG offers an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree with an emphasis in Agriculture - Poultry Science, providing two academic pathways for students: Avian Biology and Poultry Science. After completing their A.S. degree, students may continue their education at UNG to obtain a four-year degree in business or science, or transfer to another institution offering a bachelor’s degree in agriculture or poultry science.

UNG has also expanded its offerings through the development of a Poultry Science Certificate program, designed for business majors or post-baccalaureate students seeking additional knowledge and training in poultry science. This one-year cohort program combines poultry science coursework with business-focused classes to prepare students for a career in the poultry industry, particularly on the business and management side of the field.

The funding provided by the USPOULTRY Foundation will support several recruitment and outreach initiatives. Anticipated uses include the development of marketing materials for both the Poultry Science Certificate program and the A.S. Agriculture - Poultry Science degree, as well as participation in major recruitment events such as FFA conventions, the International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) and the Sunbelt Ag Expo. The grant will also help cover student travel costs for those selected to participate in the College Student Career Program at IPPE.

In addition, funds will support UNG’s “Poultry 101” outreach event, the university’s largest poultry science recruitment activity, which typically brings approximately 100 students to campus for hands-on learning and industry exposure. A portion of the grant will also be dedicated to promoting the Poultry Science Certificate program, including advertising and food costs for students attending recruitment events.

This grant is part of the USPOULTRY Foundation’s broader commitment to workforce development. In total, the Foundation board approved $331,292 in student recruiting grants to 27 colleges and universities across the U.S. with poultry science or industry-related programs. These annual funds help institutions attract and retain students in poultry studies and are made possible through contributions from companies, individuals and families, as well as proceeds from the International Poultry Expo, part of IPPE.
